Day 104: Sun 30 Jun 24 - Kalgoorlie

Sun 30 Jun 24 - Kalgoorlie  9 Deg and rain, with a  mid-afternoon  top temperature of 14 Deg - not what we expected at Kalgoorlie. It was a wet and cold day, but it didn't stop us from getting out and making the most of our visit. At 09:30am, we drove 10km across to the other side of the city to Hannan's North Tourist mine in time for the  Sunday  weekly  gold pouring demonstration  at 10:00am. After the gold pour which was interesting and informative, we walked around the large museum for  another two hours.  This is a well set out  open air   museum with many attractions that provide a good interactive experience and great insight to the history of gold mining in region. The vast array of buildings from a bygone era, and gold mining equipment including trucks, crushers, diggers, drillers and head frames are very interesting. Day 103: Sat 29 Jun 24 - Kalgoorlie

Sat 29 Jun 24 - Kalgoorlie 9 Deg and a lot of rain overnight, continuing on and off throughout the day, and reaching only a maximum of 15 Deg.   It was raining quite heavily when we woke, so it was another relaxed start to the day. First item on the agenda was a short drive into Boulder for a guided tour of the Boulder Town Hall. T he Hall was formerly a theatre famous for celebrity performances by Dame Nellie Melba, Eileen Joyce, Joan Sutherland and AC/DC. The tour took us backstage, and into rooms not normally accessible by the public. The star attraction, was a rare and famous Philip Goatcher Stage Curtain, believed to be the last remaining one of its kind anywhere. Although we didn't actually see the curtain (as it hangs protected above the show curtain and is only lowered twice a week on weekdays), and has hung in the hall since 1908.
