Wed 17 Apr 24 - Denmark
15 Deg overnight reaching a high of 25 Deg, clear and sunny with 15 to 25 km/h E winds from mid morning. It was another beautiful day. At the caravan park which is situated about 5km inland from the coast and surrounded by a lot of bush and tall trees, the wind was almost unnoticeable. Along the coast it was very noticeable, feeling much stronger than the BOM reading of 25 km/h. It didn't stop us from enjoying the stunning scenery that the Denmark region is renowned for.
Yes there are lots of photos of water, rocks and beaches, but that's what we saw most today.
After some planning this morning, we drove into town to the pharmacy, then had coffee across the road at the bakery which sadly was disappointing. At about 1000, we drove about 15km out to the William Bay National Park to the magical Green Pools, Elephant Rocks, and a couple of other lesser known beaches.
Almost completely sheltered from the waves of the Great Southern Ocean by the rounded rock boulders typical to this area, Greens Pool is a beautiful beach with calm turquoise waters, and very popular due to its tranquil beauty. A few hundred meters away is another major attraction in the area, Elephant Rocks and Elephant Cove. As the name suggests, Elephant Rocks looks like a herd of elephants, paddling in the shallow waters. After a couple of hours clambering over rocks and enjoying the scenery we continued our drive back toward Denmark (I did consider a swim, but the wind was a bit too fresh and I didn't have any dry clothes with me). After a few kms heading back along the highway towards Denmark, we turned right to the coast to another gorgeous beach - Lights Beach. It was also very scenic, but the wind was blowing even stronger by now, so we just admired the views from above in the carpark and viewing platforms.
We retuned to the caravan at about 2:00pm for a very late lunch and a rest, then I went for a leisurely ride out to the Denmark river mouth and along a rail trail for a short distance before returning to the van and calling it the day.
