Day 78: Tue 04 Jun 24 - Denham to Wooramel Station

Tue 04 Jun 24 - Denham to Wooramel Station (218km)

15 to 24 Deg C at Wooramel Station, clear and sunny with a light to moderate E Wind.

We packed up and left Denham at 09:00am, and our first stop was Eagle Bluff 24 km away, about 4km off the Shark Bay Road, and wow....what a find. This place was amazing, and I regret not coming out yesterday and spending more time here. There is a short 400m boardwalk perched high above the shallow waters of Henri Freycinet Harbour, but unfortunately today most of it was closed for renovations, but the views at both ends were nevertheless incredible. Often rays, sharks, schools of fish, turtles and dugongs can be seen from above. Today we were very lucky to see schools of large fish and a large ray, and it was amazing to see them in their natural environment. After taking longer than expected, we continued along the Shark Bay Road past Shell Beach lookout for a quick photo, then continued to the Overlander Roadhouse at the junction with the NW Coastal Coastal Highway where we had a late morning brew.

Continuing north for another 85km, we arrived at Wooramel Station and set up on a riverside site shortly after 1:00pm. Wooramel Station is a family owned working cattle, sheep and goat station with a very large and very well established camping area by the river. The property occupies an area of 1430 square kilometres with 60 kilometres of coastline frontage to the Indian Ocean, backing onto the Shark Bay World Heritage area. The Wooramel River that passes through the campground only runs 2-3 times a year for a couple of weeks at a time, after good inland rains, and we have timed our stay perfectly to coincide with one of those occasions.

The Station also has 4 nice sized artesian baths with a constant temperature of 33 Deg. After lunch and a short walk, I tested the water, and can report the water is warm and relaxing. The rest of the afternoon was taken up with a few calls, a walk through a historical junk yard and relaxing. With so many campers / caravaners here, it is surprisingly quiet outside tonight. I highly recommend this place for a stopover if ever passing by.

Eagle Bluff - Just how captivating the views were can't be described. We could have sat there all day and looked down onto the water.
