Day 16: Wed 03 Apr 24 - Esperance

Wed 03 Apr 24 - Esperance

11 Deg, cloudy with a very slight NW breeze becoming clear and 20 Deg with a light SE breeze.

After coffee (I'm enjoying a strong stove top espresso the past few mornings), we planned our itinerary for the next 2 weeks. On Friday we will leave Esperance to stay on a working property just outside the Cape Le Grand National Park for 2 nights, to explore the National Park including Lucky Bay, and the Duke of Orleans Bay. We will then make our way to Wave Rock for 2 nights with an overnight free camp on the way (most likely Ravensthorpe), then we'll continue to Albany for a 4 night stay with another overnight free camp on the way there. With planning done for the next couple of weeks, taking us outside of the school holiday period, I climbed on my bike for a very leisurely ride in various directions, while Noel insisted on staying behind to do housework. I rode into town and east along the esplanade towards Bandy Creek, then returned to town along the Esplanade and rode over the very steep Dempster Hill to West Beach. On return, back over the hill which tested me, Noel met me for coffee at Dome, our new favourite coffee shop in Esperance. After our fix, Noel returned to the caravan, while I continued exploring, until I got hungry then returned to the van too. After lunch, We went for a drive along the Great Ocean Drive to Salmon beach to try my luck at catching a Salmon. This was an unsuccessful endeavour, in terms of catching a fish, but it was a nice sunny afternoon with very little wind, and we enjoyed the stroll on the beach and the rocks anyway. Back at the van, I logged-on to check in with work, thankfully it doesn't appear as though I'm being missed, and I was logged off again within an hour. It was such a lovely afternoon, I sat outside and indulged in a couple of beverages as the sun set, then we had dinner and it was blogging and crosswords with the dull murmuring of the TV in the background.

It was a glorious day in Esperance, a bit slower paced than usual, but that is not a bad thing.

An afternoon drive out to 'Salmon Beach' for a half-hearted attempt at catching a fish
Should be called 'No-Salmon' Beach

No fish, but a lovely sunny afternoon for a wander on the beach and the rocks nonetheless
